Pomodoro: usando un reloj // using a stopwatch

Hi all

following with the Pomodoro technique I was talking you about, the most effective way to do it is using a Stopwatch utility.

This is a non-disturbing countdown watch which you can set (e.g. 25') and reset with ease, and warns you when you've consumed the Pomodoro (e.g. a bip sound), so that you keep focused on your work and boost the chance of really performing well the Pomodoros.

I have downloaded one called XNote Stopwatch (by Dmitry Nikitin) which is easy (important!) and I have configured it to just show the minutes left on a small dialog placed a corner of the screen. I can set it and reset it just pressing F1 and F2.

It would be happy to have one with a graphic Tomato theme, but that's just for the sake of humour.

pd: I've just wrote this on the 5' pause between pomodoro and pomodoro.

Técnicas ágiles y The Pomodoro Technique

Hi all,

I am reading a book called "Agile Estimating and Planning" (Mike Cohn, Prentice Hall) and, amongh other things, I have found something I liked a lot since I think it can be applicable to general office tasks beyond the IT projects.

This technique of time management it's called "The Pomodoro Technique" (by Francesco Cirillo) and it is splitting the workday in:
  • A 25 minutes session called Pomotodo (Tomato in Italian) where your totally focused on the current task, and you don't have opened Gmail, Facebook or ANYTHING else.
  • A 5 minutes rest period where you can do those things or other.
It has several advantages, since its so easy and it helps to stay relaxed while keeps you highly productive while avoids you to fall in temptations. It works to me: I have written this entry in one of the rest periods. ;-)

ps: and remembrer, never use fried-tomato bought in a supermarket. It's a sin and you'll go to the gastronomy's hell. You can buy natural cut tomato and cook it with whatever you want (mushrooms, aromatic hebs) in just 5 minutes. You'll have 5 minutes less but will eath with far more pleasure.

Hi all,

I begin today this blog and I will explain why: during my professional duties I help ITC organizations to improve their business processes to be more effective and efficient. This has made me raise, discuss and lear some techniques to improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of the "office tasks" at personal level and I want to share and discuss them in the blogger sphere.

I admit not being the perfect example though I do my best, but I think it's worthy to share this (small) knowledge and reach other people interested in improving our effectiveness and efficiency.

All the positive comments are very wellcome.

A warm greeting to all who are interested on this.

ps: I will write my blog simultaneously in Spanish and English. Sorry for the mistakes in this, since it's not my mother tongue and I have not plenty of opportunities to practice it.
